Chard Town Res 2 Beer Albion 0

Devon and Exeter Premier

HAVING lost six points when Sidbury withdrew from the league, Chard Reserves gained three vital points on Saturday to lift them out of the relegation zone, in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League.

In a match where the result was more important than the performance it was a scrappy game in difficult conditions, which saw Chard strike early and late.

The early goal came from a corner, which Kieran Bailey headed back across goal for Danny Aplin to net.

Beer had a great opportunity to equalise early in the second half, with a penalty but first team ‘keeper Jason Hutchings, deputising because of injury, saved the spot kick.

Chard brought on first team squad players Braeden Symes and Max Westlake (who had just driven back from Axminster after playing 45 minutes in a training game against Combe on the 3G surface), in the second half.

Five minutes from time Chard wrapped up the points when Liam Riste was left unmarked to convert Bradley Marsden’s cross.

Chard: Jason Hutchings, Luke Jackson, Kieran Bailey, Simon Loader, Dave Hardy, Jamie Barfoot, Dan Aplin, Ben Mear, James Boyland, Adam Tovey, Liam Riste. Subs all used Bradley Marsden, Braeden Symes, Max Westlake.

The Reserves are at home to league leaders Feniton on Saturday at 3pm.
