Somerset Premier Division: Stockwood Wanderers 2-1 Ilminster Town

Ilminster played their first match of the new year against Stockwood Wanderers who sit 5th in the Somerset County Premier Division table and were beaten 2-1 away from home, writes Andrew Fish.

The Blues more than matched their high flying opponents and  were unlucky to come away empty handed.

The team started well enough although play seemed to break down in the final third, Brad Pitman made a strong run and  went close with one effort on goal.

It was Stockwood who took the lead when they scored from a corner right on the stroke of half time.

Louis Trusson brought a good save from the home keeper low down as the Blues started the second half well .

On the hour mark Stockwood then added a second when a deep cross from the right was tapped in at the far post.

Ilminster did respond and Louis Rutter scored a fine goal that was chalked off for a dubious offside given by the home linesman, late on Taylor Jefferson pulled one goal back but it was too little too late and for the second away match running the side fell to a 2-1 defeat against top six opposition.

Louis Rutter was star man, he worked hard all afternoon holding the ball up well and can count himself unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
