ILMINSTER Bowls Club's Ladies team have won the Southey Trophy for the third time in a row.

In the final played at the weekend, Ilminster were too good for their opponents Taunton Deane.

The club said: "Ilminster ladies win on all disciplines on the day and ends a good season for the ladies teams."

In other competition news, a mixed duo from the club won the Somerset Mixed Pairs Final.

Oli Collins and Shannon Crouch won the Somerset mixed pairs title after a 21-7 win against Wiliton’s Elaine Amery & Calum Harrod in the final.

The club confirmed that the pair are "probably the youngest winners of this title in the history of Somerset Bowls. Congratulations Oli and Shannon."

This weekend, the club is hosting a free Open Day for Indoor Bowls event.

A spokesperson said: "Ilminster are now preparing to start indoor bowls and welcome everyone to come and try bowls at our open taster session.

"Come and learn the basics under guidance from our club coaches. If you would like to get involved and play turn up on the day and enjoy bowls with Ilminster."

Those sessions are running on Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday 24 from 10am - 12pm.

In other news at the club, Ilminster Bowling Club are running a Bowl for Health program in partnership with the Bowls Development Alliance Bowl for Health.

This is a FREE 8 week programme back to back which starts on Tuesday, October 3 (excluding Tuesday, October 10).

A spokesperson from the club said: "This programme is designed for newcomers or previous players to bowls, providing an overview of the basics of the sport so that they feel confident to join a club by the end of the programme.

"The programmes works with adults who are looking to improve their physical and/or mental health. A main component of the programme is to provide an opportunity for participants to socialise after each session, which is particularly helpful for those people who may be feeling isolated or lonely in their community.
