SOMERSET captain Marcus Trescothick believes ‘every point is crucial’ as his side prepare for their penultimate LV County Championship match of the season against Sussex at Hove.

Somerset were forced to settle for a draw at home to Hampshire last week, after spending almost two days in the field - but did take 13 points from the match – and Trescothick said his side are all set for two ‘massive games’.

He said: “We have still two massive games going into the back end of this season and every point we are going to get now is going to be really crucial.

“We haven’t had very long to rest and recover, but hopefully we can get straight back on it and get another result at Hove.”

Somerset director of cricket Matt Maynard said: “I see our game at Sussex as the final game of the season and we know that if we win that match we are safe, so we are concentrating on that as our last game of the year.”

The full Somerset squad is: Marcus Trescothick (capt), Tom Abell, Jim Allenby, Alex Barrow, Tom Cooper, Lewis Gregory, Tim Groenewald, James Hildreth, Jack Leach, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Luke Ronchi and Pete Trego.
