THE Senior Section joined up with the Ladies on Monday and played a bowmaker competition with two men and one lady in each team at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club.

Twelve matches were drawn and a heavy atmosphere greeted the players.

However, the scoring proved to be respectable with only two points separating the first six places.

Ruth Dowell led her team into the clubhouse having recorded a score of 77 points. This was subsquently bettered by two sides led by Geoff Dean and by Carol Lawrence who both scored one better with the former winning on the back nine.

All proceeds from the event went towards the captain's charity Meningitis Now. Result: 1 Geoff Dean, Fran Branchflower and Brian Anderson 78pts; 2 Carol Lawrence, Ray Wilton and Danny Dowell 78pts; 3 Ruth Dowell, Alan Chance and Richard Hall 77pts.

Fifty-one Seniors attended the St Patrick’s Day waltz on Wednesday in fine sunny conditions. Of the 17 teams taking part, four scored better than par.

Once again, there was a tight finish with just a single point separating the first three. The plaudits on this occasion went to octogenarian, Bob Irons who produced some fine golf to help his team into third spot.

Result: 1 Bob Barriw, Lindsay Gage and Iain Rowland 75pts; 2 Chris Basterfield, Stuart Pope and Bryan Frost 75pts; 3 Bob Irons, John Wandless and Robin Flower 74pts.

Thirty two Seniors participated in the Captain’s greensomes competition on Friday.

The medal format provided a close finish with two sides leaving the rest in their wake.

John Wallis had a successful return to the club and together with his partner returneda score of 3 under par 67. Close behind with 68 was the team skippered by Alan Davis.

All proceeds were donated to the Captain’s charity.
