EARLY morning rain reduced the field to 30 Seniors for a two man Texas Scramble at Cricket St Thomas.

While the early starters suffered through the rain, the later partnerships benefited from late morning sunshine.

Only 2.5 shots separated the first three positions with Mike Mosser and Danny Dowell taking the honours having returned a score of 5.75 under par.

Result: 1 Mike Mosser & Danny Dowell 64.75; 2 Bob White & Keith Branchflower 66.50; 3 Alan Chance & Maurice Arnold 66.75.

The three man Bowmaker competition last Wednesday attracted 14 teams.

The yellow ball variation made for some interesting scoring, and only four points separated the first three teams.

Maurice Arnold’s trio led for most of the day, having posted a score of 125, beating Frank Martin’s team by two points.

This was ultimately beaten by Gordon Bareham’s side with 127 points.

Result: 1 Gordon Bareham, Andy Beale & Ray Gudge 127 pts; 2 Maurice Arnold, Nick George & Martin Leigh 125pts; 3 Frank Martin, Mike Hone & Nobby Hodder 123pts.

The popular format of Canadian Greensomes was the order of the day on Friday, attracting 18 pairs.

With alternate shots taken after selecting the best drive and second shot, decent scores were expected from the lower handicap players.

This proved to be the case as the winners finished three points ahead of the field.

Result: 1 Bill Hilson & Danny Dowell 43pts; 2 Ray Gudge & Fred Oliver 40pts; 3 Ray Wandless & Nick George 39pts.
