ILMINSTER Town manager Darren Manley is upping his search for a new striker as his side takes a two week enforced break.

The Blues have scored just 14 goals in 14 league matches this season and Manley is keen to add to his attacking options.

After Ilminster lost 1-0 at Cutters Friday in the Errea County league on Saturday, Manley said: “The trouble was we were toothless up front and scoring goals has been a problem all season.

“We’re just not proactive enough in the final third and we need a new face or two to freshen things up.”

Ilminster’s problems have been exacerbated by Charlie Rutter’s goal drought. He has yet to find the net this season after comfortably leading the scoring charts with 13 league goals last term.

In contrast the Blues’ defence has generally been sound. Although they have suffered a couple of heavy away defeats, only four goals have been conceded in six home matches.

Manley has already moved to increase the Blues’ potency by signing young attacking midfielder Jordan Turner from Misterton. Turner made his debut against Cutters and looks one for the future.

Ilminster's next game is at home to bottom club Nailsea Town on November 29.
