WINDWHISTLE Seniors held their main event of the year last Wednesday with the Texas Scramble Open tournament.

The event attracted 22 teams of three from Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire and Norfolk and Somerset.

The 18 teams from the home club made up the total entry of 40.

The first team teed of at 7.45am in perfect conditions, with the final trio teeing off at 1.45pm.

The competition separates the home teams from the visitors, with prizes awarded to the first four places in each section.

Leading in the clubhouse at the half way stage was the side from Taunton and Pickeridge 1, led by their captain, David Roach, with a nett score of 62.25.

Further back, a tight struggle developed between Long Sutton 1 and Taunton & Pickeridge 2, and both finished with the same score, one better than the leaders.

Finally, Chris Gingell led his Long Sutton 2 side home with an unbeatable 60.

In the home team section, another tie between two teams – led by Trevor Dobson and John Bonney – seemed to have the best scores until the final trio at game 40 returned a card indicating a score of nett 61.83 and claimed first prize.

After the prize giving, captain Alan Davis thanked all players for their support, his committee, and the ladies section for supplying volunteers.

With the help of a raffle the event raised in excess of £300 for the captain’s charity, Prostate Cancer UK.
