Toolstation Western League Division 1
Almondsbury UWE 1, Chard Town 1
CHARD’s Elliott Dyer had a mixed day as these two unbeaten sides took on each other at Almondsbury on Saturday.
Dyer led Chard’s fightback and hit the equaliser on the hour but, two minutes later, he saw red after receiving his second yellow card of the match.
The game opened with the home side having the edge. Nathan Whatley, in the Chard goal, had to be on his best form as he first denied simon McElroy, then Stephen Fitzpatrick.
But, it was McElroy who found the net in the 42nd minute, chasing down a through ball from Ricky Chandler before firing home.
In the second half, Chard got more into the game and had created a number of chances before Dyer rose well to head home.
But, his celebrations were short-lived, as the referee issued his second yellow card to Dyer, quickly followed by the red.
The incident halted Chard’s momentum but their assured defence thwarted Almondsbury’s efforts and held out for a hard-won point.
l On Saturday, in the Devon & Exeter Premier, Chard Reserves entertain Beer Albion at Zembard Lane (ko 3pm).
