ARTISTS across Somerset are having their work displayed during the Open Studios week.

Nearly 300 artists are participating in the event organised by Somerset Art Works that runs from September 17 until October 2.

They will be opening up their person studios and homes to let the public in to view their art.

Open Studios week happens every two years and gives artists the chance to showcase their work and involve as many members of the public as possible.

There will be 208 different venues to visit across the county throughout the event.

Elizabeth Earley, a painter from Taunton, is taking part in this year’s event, something she said she loves to do.

She said: “I’ve taken part in Somerset Open Studios before and it is great.

“I love the whole process of painting, I am a bit of a colourist so I love exploring the tensions between different colours and I mainly work with oil paintings.

“The event is fantastic because you get to meet new people and talk about art. S, some of them might not have been interested before but thought they would come along.”

Taunton artist Jane Brossard is also taking part in the event for the first time.

She said: “It is really exciting, there have been lots of people coming in, and other artists, too.

“This is my first year of taking part, it is all very stimulating.

“I started painting at a course in Mexico, but it is only in the last few years that I have been doing it more intensely.

“I have been inspired by my news living in Porlock, looking out onto the weir and also the Somerset Levels have inspired me, too.”

Works of art from paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceramics and mixed medias can be found throughout the venues.

The county has been split into five sections, Mendip, South Somerset, Sedgemoor, West Somerset and Taunton Deane.
