Ilminster Town Council to hold auction as it vacates old offices

The council said it will be vacating the offices on March 29 and the items, sold to raise funds for the Mayor’s charity, will be available from March 18.

A message from the town council read: “Ilminster Town Council will be vacating the North Street council offices on March 29.

“Furniture in the chamber and other items are being sold by a silent auction with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s chosen charity.

“Come along and see if there is anything you may be interested in buying.

“The items will be available to view from 4pm to 7pm on Monday, March 18 at the council offices, North Street.

“Bidders are invited to place a bid by 7pm on March 18, with winners being notified on March 19.

“Items must be taken away between March 20 and March 27.

“This will also be advertised on Facebook.

“Bids should be submitted to the town council stating item number, bid, contact name, and number/email.”

Since August 2022, the town council has been based at Old Magistrates Court in East Street.

In October last year, the town council decided not to pursue the purchase of the North Street Council Offices from Somerset Council.

The building had been offered by Somerset Council as part of its devolution of assets.

A spokesperson for the council previously said: “Whilst it could have been an opportunity for the town council to acquire the building, it was felt by members that the condition of the building would have required a large amount of public funds to bring it to a standard that would see it useable by the community.

“During the recent community consultation, the community's largest response indicated that people did not think the council should purchase the building."
