TWO glamping units will be built on a land near Ilminster.

A planning application seeking full permission for the change of use of a land in Dowlish Wake was recently approved.

The site on Kitchill Lane South will have a two-person cabin unit and parking, instead of the three units previously proposed.

A planning document read: “The proposed units are modest in size, consisting of two timber cabins with a flat, sedum roof.

“The parking and turning areas are proposed in grasscrete and significant tree planting is proposed to assimilate the development into the landscape.”

The document also read: “This is an application seeking full planning permission for the change of use of land to a glamping site, incorporating two two-person cabin unit, parking and turning.

“This has been reduced from the three units previously proposed.

“The site is located in the open countryside for planning purposes and a public Right of Way runs through the site.”

The same planning document also explained: “As the site is located in the open countryside, the original scale of the development for three units of holiday accommodation was considered inappropriate and through negotiations has been reduced to two units.

“The site is immediately adjacent to a public right of way so the development benefits from easy pedestrian access to local villages and tourist attractions.

“Subject to a site-specific assessment below, the development is acceptable in principle.”
