WORKS for new facilities and an extension to an existing cricket clubhouse will go ahead after a planning application was approved this week.

The planning document read “extension to the existing Ilton Cricket Clubhouse to enable for creation of new home and away team shower facilities, accessible through existing changing rooms”.

The document also read: “This is an application seeking full planning permission for a modest extension to the existing Cricket Clubhouse to improve the changing room provision.

“The Cricket Club is located to the west of Copse Lane, located close to Merryfield Hall and the Wyndham Arms. The clubhouse is located within the north-western corner of the cricket field.”

Ilton Parish Council also supported the application.

Their statement read: “Ilton Cricket Club are very supportive and involved in children's and adult cricket, with many local members and also of Somerset Disabled Cricket and the proposals will further support these communities.”

The planning document also read: “It is not considered that the proposed development would be of such a height and bulk that it would result in a loss of light or an overbearing relationship with neighbouring properties.

“Additionally, the window layout is such that it would not result in undue overlooking of neighbouring properties.

“On this basis, it is not considered that the development would result in demonstrable harm to residential amenity. It is considered to be in accordance with policy EQ2.”
