TRAIN services in South Somerset have been cancelled today (Friday, January 5) due to a landslip.
South Western Railway and Network Rail have issued a joint statement saying no trains will be running between Yeovil Junction and Exeter due to "a landslip near Crewkerne".
In their statement, SWR chief operating officer Stuart Meek, and Network Rail's route director (interim) Matt Pocock said: "We are really sorry for the disruption to our customers' journeys yesterday (Thursday, 4 January following the significant rainfall and multiple incidents of flooding across our network, as well as a landslip.
"The sheer amount of rain falling on already wet and waterlogged areas, so close after Storm Henk earlier this week, meant that in many locations we were unable to run trains as it would not have been safe to do so.
"Whilst we expect water levels to drop and most of the network to reopen today (Friday, 5th January) we will not be able to operate services between Yeovil Junction and Exeter because of a landslip near Crewkerne.
"We must therefore ask customers not to try and travel by train between these stations today.
"We will provide a further update as soon as we can.
"Disruption to the rest of our network is expected to last throughout today due to displaced trains and crews.
"We would urge everyone to check before they travel to see whether their train is running as planned.
"We're sorry for the second major disruption to journeys on our network this week."
