Chard RFC Ladies raise funds ahead of Three Peaks challenge

The team will climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in 24 hours this September to raise funds for the Community Hub and support grassroots rugby.

Cara Austin, the team’s vice-captain, said: “Our fundraising is well underway. We have raised over £800 after the success of the Christmas Fayre, and a Quiz Night we hosted at the club raised over £200.

“We have an Easter Bingo lined up at Chard Rugby Club on March 22.

“Local business sponsorships are taking our total up to nearly £1,500. We are asking local businesses for business sponsorship, in return we will add their logo to our challenge flag to be photographed at the top of all Three Peaks.”

Cara also said: “In September 2024, we plan to take on the National Three Peaks challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in 24 hours.

“We are raising funds for our rugby club, Chard RFC, and the Chard Community Hub charity which provides essential services to people in need.

“The money we raise will help to support grassroots rugby across the board at the club and be donated back into the community of Chard.

“We are taking on the challenge as the ladies' senior team and hope we inspire other young women and girls to know their strengths and what they can achieve.

“Our aim is not only to raise as much money as possible for our club and the Chard Community Hub but to also raise awareness of what a team of strong women can achieve and help to promote the benefits of women's rugby within the South West at the same time.”
