Chard Freemasons presented cheques worth nearly £1,000 to the MS Society and St Margaret’s Hospice.

The funds were raised by Paul Connett during his year in the chair.

Worshipful brother Adrian Auton handed over the cheques - worth £434 each - on behalf of Mr Connett, who was unable to attend the presentation.

Mr Connett chose the MS Society in light of a family member's MS diagnosis, recognising their efforts in medical research.

The donation to St Margaret’s Hospice was a tribute to brother Andy Campbell, a close friend and late member of the lodge.

Caroline Kew, senior community fundraiser at MS Society, could not attend the presentation.

However, she expressed her gratitude in a message: "We are very grateful to the past master and masons of the Lodge of Prudence & Industry for raising this money on our behalf.

"None of our vital work would happen without the generosity shown by organisations like yours."

Meanwhile, David Jones, accepting the cheque on behalf of St Margaret’s Hospice, thanked the past master and lodge members for their continuing support.

The donations will be instrumental in funding the valuable work of both charities.
