THE ‘Wrap Up Warm’ initiative involving libraries across Somerset is having a “huge impact”.
The six libraries running the scheme, which include the ones in Ilminster and Chard, have received 156 coats.
Hats, scarves, and gloves were donated too with the aim of helping the community during the cold weather.
A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: “A huge thank you to everyone who has donated coats (and hats, scarves, and gloves) to our Winter Coat Exchange.
“Across the six libraries currently running the scheme we have received a whopping 156 coats with over 80 of those already finding new homes.
“The impact that this will have on those in need within our communities is huge.
“Some of our libraries are running low on coats because of the demand so please do keep donating what you can – men’s, women's, and especially children's coats are all needed.
“We just ask that they are clean and wearable and that all pockets are emptied before handing them over to a member of staff in the library.
“Somerset Libraries Bridgwater have just joined the scheme this week.
“So if you are local to Bridgwater, you can now donate, exchange, or take a coat from their in-library rail.
“We are just overwhelmed with the generosity that you have shown in response to this campaign - so thank you, you really are amazing.”
The ‘Wrap Up Warm’ scheme is encouraging people to donate their no longer needed coats to help the community in the cold weather.
