AN APPLICATION to turn a barn into a residential accommodation has been approved this week.

The application is seeking permission for the conversion of an agricultural barn at Langham House, in Wadeford, near Chard, to form one unit of residential accommodation (C3 dwelling) together with associated parking and private amenity space.

The proposed conversion would include the two bedrooms and living and dining space all over a single storey.

The dwelling would make use of the existing access off the unclassified road, also serving Langham House.

A planning document read: “The application site relates to a single-storey barn of stone construction associated with Langham House, one mile to the north of Chard and three-quarter of a mile southeast of Wadeford.

“The site is set beneath the minor road which connects Chard with Combe St Nichoals.

“It forms a wider agglomeration of traditional barns and dwellings forming a small nucleated settlement straddling the unclassified road which runs north from its junction with the aforementioned road, and from which access to Langham House is taken.

“The barn occupies a simple rectangular footprint orientated north/south and at right angles to the barn which sits it its immediate east, and Langham House beyond.

“The site lies within the hydrological catchment of the Somerset Levels and Moors Ramsar/SPA site.
