SHANNON Sims' Queen of the Board swept the board at Chard Children's Carnival on Saturday.

Hot on the heels of her success in her home children's carnival last week, the 11-year-old from Ilminster made completed the double to win the best overall trophy with her striking chess-themed costume.

There was also success for Chard favourites including ZEM CC, who walked off with the wheeled class with Joseph.

The spirit of carnival cup, and the groups (three to five) class was won by the sword wielding Manor Court Musketeers, made up of brothers Jake and Alfie Crump and Sam Hall.

Before the procession set off on its new route round town, eight-year-old Alice Hall was crowned carnival princess in a regal red dress. She then presented cups and certificates to the carnival winners.

There were also several tots entering for the first time, including six-month-old Kayden Glanvill who was smiling as she piloted her yellow submarine, seven-month-old Robbie Goetz as Noddy, and six-month-old Lily Lucas who was a very Little Indian.
