A NEW retail store which promises "exceptional service" has opened its doors in Backwell.

The opening of Welcome Co-op Backwell, on 73 Station Road, was made possible after £1.6 million was spent on acquiring and refurbishing the premises.

The new store, which has 2100 square feet of retail space and 1500 square feet of ancillary facilities, comes complete with a petrol forecourt, parking spaces, and even a customer toilet.

Kim Anderson, store manager, said: "We are thrilled to open the new Welcome Co-op store in Backwell.

"Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional service and a diverse range of products to meet the needs of our valued customers. We look forward to becoming an integral part of the Backwell community and serving its residents."

Yesterday (Wednesday, May 8), a ribbon-cutting event was held in celebration of the store's opening. This was followed by a giveaway from Harvest cupcakes and complimentary product samples from brands such as Monster Energy and Rollover hot dogs.

Free goodie bags were given to the first 20 customers, while adults spending £20 or more were given a complimentary bottle of wine.

Billy Driscoll, a local musician, provided entertainment.
