HARLEQUIN Carnival Club was celebrating at the weekend after finishing as runner-up on the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnivals Circuit for 2015.

The Ilminster-based club's Fogg’s World Tour wowed the crowds at the processions at Bridgwater, Highbridge & Burnham, Weston-super-Mare, North Petherton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and finally on Saturday night at Glastonbury.

Fogg’s World Tour – which had the fantastic innovative idea of the revolving front which saw three club members spin around a full 360 degrees – certainly impressed the judges and they won the North Petherton Cup for coming second in the overall county feature category which is hugely competitive every year. Harlequin also won the cup for best music.

Carnivalites from across the county have congratulated Harlequin on a great season and their impressive entry.

Winners were the mighty Gremlins CC, of Bridgwater, who won all seven carnivals with their entry Lights, Camera, Action – inspired by the golden age of Hollywood and used a clever black and white colour theme and famous characters such as Marilyn Monroe, Laurel and Hardy and King Kong – and they not only claimed the Midsomer Norton Cup for the feature section but also the coveted Starkey Cup for having the best entry overall in Somerset.

Gemini CC, also of Ilminster, came third overall in the tableau category with Scott’s Terra Nova behind winners Pentathlon CC, of North Petherton, with What Lies Beneath, and Huckyduck CC, of Coleford, with Gatsby.

There was further success for Ilminster with Xtreme CC who were named overall county champions in the group of adult masqueraders category.

Their entry entitled Salute won them the Hot Red Gremlin Cup and beat off the challenge of Vagabonds CC, of Bridgwater, and their entry The Parade of Ali. The clubs will soon be thinking ahead to 2016 and what they can do to impress the judges and crowds once again.
