THE first-ever Ribbon Run 10k at Ashill has brought in just under £500 for cancer charities.

It was back in July when the 10k and a 2k fun run were held on behalf of the Chard-based Ribbon Cancer Support, Awareness and Fundraising group.

Now Ribbon has just announced that a total of £492.33 was raised, and will be shared between the Breast Cancer Now and Macmillan Cancer Support charities.

A spokesman for Ribbon said: “We would like to send huge thanks to our sponsors, J. B. Wheaton, and also to Chard Road Runners for their help and support and Maria and Chris Wadey who did a fantastic job in organising it.”

Winner of the 10k race raise was Kenny Timson, of Ilminster, with Wayne Loveridge, of Chard Road Runners, in second place.

Ilminster’s Mary Gaston was the first lady finisher ahead of Stevie Potter, of Chard.

Organisers Chris and Maria Wadey, well known on the local running circuit, would like to thank everyone who took part in the inaugural Ribbon 10k and to those people who supported and marshalled the course which took in Ashill, Broadway and Horton with the starting and finishing point being at the Square and Compass Inn at Ashill.
