FERNE Animal Sanctuary is seeking home produce for a 'Dig for Victory' stand at its 1940s Family Fun Day on Wednesday, August 5, at their site in Wambrook, near Chard.

The charity is looking for donations of cakes, jams and chutneys, soaps, candles and other home crafted items as well as plants, seeds, fruit and veg.

Donations can be delivered to the site or taken to the sanctuary's charity shops in Chard, Langport or Bridport, making staff aware that they are for the summer open day.

Sarah Jackson, event organiser from Ferne Animal Sanctuary, said: “There are guidelines for these donations at www.ferneanimalsanctuary.org/index.php?page=dig-for-victory-donation-guidelines or people can just call us.”

Any other donations - particularly raffle prizes and toys for the toy tombola - will be gratefully received.

Sarah added: “We are also running three ‘Best Dressed 1940s’ competitions which will be judged at the end of the day.

"Categories are Best 1940s Dressed Lady - winner receives a one hour personal shopper experience donated by Lush in Taunton and a £5 Pets at Home voucher; Best 1940s dressed gentleman – winner receives two adult Roamer Return tickets on West Somerset Railway and a £5 Pets at Home voucher; best 1940s dressed boy and girl – each winner will receive a £10 voucher for Toys R Us and an annual family pass to Ferne Animal Sanctuary.

“The 1940’s Family Fun Day is our major fund-raiser for 2015 and promises to be a fabulous event.

"Everyone at Ferne is really excited about the theme this year. We are all looking forward to seeing lots of people dressed up, a bumper crowd and everyone having a fantastic day.”
