YEAR 11 students from Holyrood Academy are well on their way to qualifying for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The 46 students set off from Winsham, battling through the wind to reach Hawkchurch before spending the night under the stars.

It was all smiles and sunshine the next day when everyone made it to the finish line and could rest at last, reflecting on one group’s impromptu rescue of a newly-born calf from a particularly deep bog.

Holyrood staff, including Kim Hill, Karen Seib, Andy Symes, Pat Duffy, Alison Rawlins and Alison Hoyle are delighted with the students and agreed it was a fantastic achievement by all.

The fun’s not over yet as these students now need to complete a presentation on their expedition as well as completing the other aspects of the award, which include, physical activities, volunteering and learning a new skill.
