ILMINSTER carnival giant Harlequin has scooped the overall trophy for best entry in this year's South Somerset Federation circuit.

At a glittering awards do held at Westland's Leisure Centre on Saturday night, Harlequin picked up the Peggy Hutchings Cup, and a clutch of other trophies, for their sunshine spectacular Samba Carnival.

The awards ceremony proved rich pickings for clubs from the Chard and Ilminster area, with many local entrants walking away with top honours.

Harlequin club secretary Sarah Hooper said: "It was brilliant, we are all thrilled to bits to win the trophy back and will go on display at The Bell Inn in Ilminster.

"The success was down to our members who have worked hard again this year. We had to pull out all the stops again and we'd like to thank everyone who supported us."

The South Somerset circuit includes Ilminster, Chard, Taunton and Wellington Carnivals.
